Oh Canada! Day 5

Day 5 in Canada...which found me taking a trip out of Vancouver and off to Victoria which is located on Vancouver Island.

Now for a bit of background information...Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia which is the province that contains Vancouver. Victoria is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. With a population of approximately 78,000, it is home to the British Columbia Legislative Buildings and one of its primary industries is tourism. It boasts a wide range of beautiful scenic locations...several of which I visited during my day there.

Okay...now that I have got the formalities out of the way I can get back to talking about the day. So we were up mighty early...I mean before 6:30am...to hit the road and head down to the Sky Train to make our way to the ferry terminal. Arriving at the terminal at about 8:45am after taking two trains and a bus, we made our way on to the ferry and we were away headed for Victoria!

The trip across from the mainland takes about one and a half hours, but it offers many beautiful views along the way. The water is not overly rough, so it makes for a pleasant journey. After arriving in Victoria, we first headed into downtown. A lovely colorful city, the streets were lined with flower baskets along most streets. The weather was just perfect so it made for countless picture opportunities!

While in downtown, we walked down to the Government buildings where we took a stroll through the buildings there. Very impressive indeed.

From here we headed down to Ogden Point and Breakwater which is a magnificent pier walkway which goes quite a distance out from land. Again it provided countless photo opportunities and just simply a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view.

From here we headed to probably the most popular attraction in Victoria, the Butchart Gardens. Now as you probably know...Im not a big one on gardening and garden related things...but I have to admit this place was just beautiful! While it did cost around $30/pp...you have the opportunity to stroll through one of the most amazing gardens I have ever seen. With a a vast variety of flowers throughout the garden, it is stated that it will take you about 90 minutes to get through the garden, but we spent a lot closer to 3 hours there! Some of the pathways left you speechless...MAN...I'm starting to sound like a girl...but I have to admit...it was fantastic!

When we finally managed to drag ourselves away from the garden, we made our way to one final location, Island View Beach. This quiet and scenic beach has driftwood strewn along the shore. We spent time here before it was time to head back to the ferry terminal and back to Vancouver.

While we could have easily spent a few days on Vancouver Island alone...one day was enough to show me another beautiful location that is part of Canada.
